fast. TeXmacs is an interesting variant, but TeX is also too *cough*
"mature" to be easily mated to Emacs in a flexible, programmable way.
I wasn't aware of it. I'm not entirely sure I see what it's for!
But then, I don't do WYSIanything. (OK, I sometimes use xfig.)
Some of the modern variants are TeX are quite interesting, but not
quite interesting enough to actually use if you need to get work done.
