Norbert has already objected explicitly to the claim that patching
21.4 is a solution, and I suspect Vin doesn't like it much either.
Unless you can persuade both of them, it's definitely *un*acceptable.
As I wrote, we *can* patch 21.4, too, and I think it's a good idea.
But this is not going to stop here, I bet. There is a huge amount of
new syntax, some of it quite gratuitous, in recent GNU Emacs, and I
really really doubt this is the last time we're going to need to patch
21.4 for a package synch.
