Adiran, Thanks for the suggestions. Is this docvumented in the INSTALL document or somewhere else? I see you can get all packages needed by Gnus, and that is great. Unfortunately, when I try to (package-get-all 'gnus nil), I get an error saying that efs-ftp is not present. Hmmm. Several other package-get routines also produce errors. Is it possible that package-get itself requires several non-base packages? Well, I'll spend some time reading the documentation on package-get and see if that might explain things. I still think this will cause massive confusion when 21.0 comes out unless it's much better documented. Maybe something in the splash might help, but I suspect few will ever get past theirt .emacs files. There needs to be something in both README and INSTALL to warn users that this will be just a bit different from all previous versions and that it may be best to wait for futher 21.0 releases before installing unless you are willing to spend some time on it.
