This didn't happen last week. I recently upgraded a bunch of stuff
from Debian "Woody" using `apt-get'. My guess is that likely the ESD
libs have been changed. I recompiled XEmacs after a fresh CVS update
today, and it still happens.
Touch a file, chown it read only, start xemacs -vanilla, evaluate
`(load-default-sounds)', then type in the read only buffer. Probably
only does it on Linux with ESD; perhaps only on current Debian
"Woody"? I lack the skills and time to track this down. I really
need to spend the day working on my math assignment, sorry.
I will give a trusted individual a SSH login to test this XEmacs
binary and setup with. Drop me a note. I won't recompile until
then. I'll just be careful to save often, etc. (I have to get back
to my math then go for a run.)
