Are you saying that after I type "C-cC-c", I should type "exit" and
press
Return? As soon as I press "C-cC-c", XEmacs is completely hung. I can't
type in anything in the shell buffer.

Pressing C-cC-c in the shell hangs XEmacs forever. This did not happen
when
I was using 21.1.13. I'm not sure why you refer to the
"shell being
finished". Pressing C-cC-c in the shell is for interrupting subjobs, not
to
kill the shell, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're
saying.
Right, but when you type exit <ret> the shell should exit and XEmacs should
notice.
