Then I'm defeated. Setting interprogram-cut-function to nil should
prevent the busy loop by preventing you from pasting to other programs
at all. Beyond that, we don't at the moment have resources to work on
this.
You probably misunderstood. I set 'x-selection-strict-motif-ownership'
to nil and that didn't fix the problem.
I've set 'interprogram-cut-function' to nil and the problem went away.
But of course that means you can't use copy & paste out of the XEmacs
windows anymore :-(
If that workaround is not acceptable but you still want to use
XEmacs,
you could build with some other widget set than Motif, which is a
historical source of many bugs. Or you could try a different
distribution of Motif.
It's the one coming standard with RHEL4:
