Eek! That means prog-modes contains the broken version of eiffel.el
(the most significant thing is that it provides 'eiffel-mode, not
'eiffel). My commit from 2002-06-07 didn't seem to make it to you:

whitespace and that the next character is not a double-quote. This

provide.
Removed D. Colnet from copyright. A recent exchange confirmed
that I haven't merged any of his changes.
Clarified eif-short bug is under *GNU* Emacs 19.34.
Is there any way I could have avoided this?

There's no easy way.
There is a bug in CVS such that if (a) you do "cvs commit ." in a top
directory and (b) there are files in subdirectories that need to be
committed, CVS will commit only files from subdirectories. This is
longstanding and for some reason the CVS developers have never done
anything about it. That's one possible source of such problems
(however, I don't see any subdirectories of prog-modes, so that
doesn't seem likely in this case).
Doing cvs status will pick this up. Also, you can watch the
xemacs-cvs list for commit notices. I use Message-IDs to identify
what I'm committing, but there's no automated way to match the commits
with the patches. :-(

Yep, and the commit seemed to make it... I think I did a sanity check
via the web interface...

Didn't know about that bug, but I'll just point out that `cvs commit .'
is a bad idea anyway (talking as someone whose desktop machine is old
and serves as a cvs server): it's just too expensive for what it is.
Just list the damn files you want to commit.
PCL-CVS does it for you, of course ;-)
