I’ve looked through faces.el, specifier.c, faces.c and the Lispref, and I can’t work out a way to assign a specific X11 or Xft font to a given XEmacs face when displaying a particular Mule character set. I can’t even work out where you got the information on (define-specifier-tag 'lang-ja) and the (set-face-font ...) that you’re using in the XFT docs, Stephen. So at least the docs need more info, and if not we need to add this functionality. Stefan, adding (setq x-symbol-xsymb0-fonts '("SImPL-14") x-symbol-xsymb1-fonts '("SImPL-14")) to the end of your code might just get it running for you.
