Not flamebait.
I'm frustrated by some slowdowns in xemacs.
The problem is, a number of operations are _ridiculously_ slow.
Primarily,
this is reading a directory in dired.
Please be more specific. How much time, etc. What directory(s). How
big are they.
I get a redisplay flash which is annoying, and the time to finish
redisplay over an ADSL connection is perceptible. Still, maybe 0.2
sec? On the Mac, locally, with its insanely slow file system and Xft
redisplay delays, under 0.2 sec. Is that what you mean by
"ridiculously slow"? Or do you mean more like 2 sec?
Also, starting shell.
Instantaneous for me.
What both of these have in common is that they start processes (dired
uses ls, not XEmacs's native directory handling). More than that I
can't say at the moment.
