This is a poor decision, if we want to encourage contributions to
XEmacs. We MUST provide .gz files. Ideally we would also provide
.bz2 files, as the Linux Kernel project does.
My own scripts for grabbing the latest beta release were broken by the
switch to .bz2. I'm sure others have had the same experience.
Why not just upload .bz2 and have a script that steve can run
automatically to convert to gzip after the upload. Bing, everybody
happy. Could even stick it in cron every half hour to make it truly
automatic. :)
