Hmm.  By offhand looking at the code, I would agree with you that it
is hard to fix these bugs.  When we talked in Paris, you said that you 
considered the redisplay engine (relatively) well-written and worth
upgrading.  Have you gained additional insight now, or were you having 
other things in mind at the time[1]?
