I've now installed the DEC lk411-jj keyboard that came with the system and set the DEC defaults and run XEmacs with `delete-key-deletes-forward' set to t and it appears to behave sanely. There are some strange markings above F11 (ESC), F12(BS) and F13(LF). When the language environment is set to English, F11 generates the Escape keysym[1], F12 and F13 generate `F12' and `F13' respectively. In a Japanese language environment, F11 becomes just plain F11. This keyboard has a Remove key that also generates apLineDel like the IBM PC keyboard. Fans of a function key deleting forwards probably ought to think about supporting this. apLineDel not defined. Question for our friends who work at Digital: under what circumstances is the F12 key made into a backspace key?
