 Could this be the session support. If I recall correctly this creates
 a fake (unmapped) window that has the appropriate properties on it.
 Maybe exiting gwm somehow maps this window? 
Yap, it looks like. But the app_shell has set it's mappendWhenManaged property 
to false, and so the windowmanager should ignore it. I think this must be
fixed in gwm.
