This is something that has annoyed me for a long time too. Another
annoying thing is that sometimes, an active minibuffer (with a y-or-n question
for instance) can be hidden by a message in the echo area. You have to move
the leave and re-enter the frame with the mouse to see the minibuffer again.
This makes me think that I would prefer to have separate zones for the
minibuffer and the echo area.
Along with the same lines, what I'd like to have is one minibuffer per
frame (not following the focus) that could be used simultaneously without
requiring recursion.
