BUT in xemacs-21.2.19/INSTALL I found, that ... By default, packages will be searched for in the path ~/.xemacs::$prefix/lib/xemacs-${version}/mule-packages:$prefix/lib/xemacs/mule-packages:$prefix/lib/xemacs-${version}/xemacs-packages:$prefix/lib/xemacs/xemacs-packages ... Then I looked through the NEWS (C-h n) and found the following : ... ** XEmacs now locates the early package hierarchy at ~/.xemacs/packages. This has changed from simply ~/.xemacs. ... But moving my packages to ~/.xemacs/packages/ was also useless. And, finally, what I met in xemacs-21.2.19/lisp/ChangeLog : 1999-06-24 Michael Sperber [Mr. Preprocessor] <sperber(a)informatik.uni-tuebingen.de&gt; * packages.el (package-locations): Changed default early package hierarchies to ~/.xemacs/mule-packages and ~/.xemacs/xemacs-packages.
