XEmacs *may* be buggy, but without a C backtrace it's hard to say. Since you have experienced an XEmacs crash, I would recommend upgrading XEmacs to the most recent stable version, which is 21.4.20. If you have the core file available, XEmacs was built with debugging symbols so you probably can get a useful backtrace.
