Hi
I have compiled Xemacs-21.1.14 a dozen of time in different
environments:
Today I did it on a Suse 7.2 Linux: I configured all the graphic
interfaces like xface, xpm, PNG,JPEG
and with Lucid tool bar support.
When I start xemacs as root everything is fine, however any other
ordinary user does not get Lucid toolbars but the plain old GNU
ones. The first time I see this and have no explanation for this.
Anybody has an idea?

If you become root using su then the path may be munged; perhaps
/usr/bin is put before /usr/bin/local and you are running a different
xemacs?

Hm it is more complicated.
I configured and compiled again, this time with explicit
--with-menubars=lucid (INSTALL says this is the default)
I did not install xemacs, but just started in
/usr/src/packages/SOURCES/xemacs-21.1.14/src/xemacs
(and the wellcome message told me this is the right version, just compiled)
Now when I do this as a normal user, or as root (using su and setenv display)
then the menubar/tool bars look old plain gnu one.
When I log in as root with my own KDE session and start it,
xemacs looks like using Lucid, I say it looks because of the
greyscale, I had a close look and it is not Lucid, just gnu looking
more grey.
So I am puzzled. The issue is not terrible important, but it annoys me
and show that something in the compilation went wrong, I wonder what
else.

Nope it is the same,
So two things puzzle me, the fact of different greyscale and the fact
that Lucid looks so much like old plain GNU scrollbars/menubars. But
only on this modern Laptop with high resolution screen etc.

I don't think I understand what you mean by "old plain GNU
scrollbars/menubars". Perhaps you could make some screenshots
available; someone may spot what is wrong.
