This seems a very classical problem as the FAQ as an answer for it.
It
says that you just have to add a line in your /etc/hosts (FAQ question
2.5.3).
OK, thanks. I've updated my copy of the FAQ and will pushing to the
mainline shortly.
Here's the ChangeLog I plan to use. If you would like the citation to
be different or omitted, please let me know.

* xemacs-faq.texi (Q2.5.3):
Add information about resolver configuration to Q2.5.3.
Thanks to Guillaume MULLER <gm.work.lists(a)gmail.com>.
* xemacs-faq.texi (Top): Update menu.
* xemacs-faq.texi (Installation): Update menu.
It seemed that Xemacs attemps to resolve a name using gethostbyname()
(I
still don't understand why XEmacs X gui has the problem but not xemacs -nw)
I think this is due to Xlib, not XEmacs. X is fundamentally a network
protocol. Probably it wants to report the display name as
localhost:0, not 127.0.0.1:0.
