What I did was
cvs update; make World; make install; # restart the X server
What might inhibit reproduction (that I know of):
You need to configure so that the contents of the xkbcomp directories
overwrite your /etc/X11/xkb tree (not recommended if you've got work
to do) or otherwise are the ones that xkbcomp picks up when the X
server calls it (I don't know how to do that, I live dangerously :)
You need hardware/console driver that sends keycode 51 for the
rightbracket/rightbrace key (on jp106 layouts, physically that's AC12)
and 211 for the backslash underscore key (AB11).
I've only done this so far on my sacrificial host, a Gateway 2000
"3350" (B5 format notebook). The copper, plastic, and rotational
speed of the CPU fan shouldn't matter, but then with X11 you never
know.:-/
