I think that the problem probably is in Jan Vroonhof's
translation of
much of the options menu stuff to custom; he excised a lot of
"unnecessary" code.
Note, I only did the font-menu part to complete the changeover. Note I
did not exercise any code. The only real change is that now customize
is used to make the change for the default font (the other code was
not removed as it is steal needed to update the other faces).
In this is case it is a reall custom bug. In xemacs -vanilla
(custom-set-faces
'(default ((t (:family "Lucidatypewriter"))) t))
produces a white background!
