Perhaps not. md5.el is not part of up-stream Gnus now though (but it
was in the Gnus version packaged in XEmacs).
Yes, I was trying to post a similar suggestion some 10h ago, but my SMTP
was down :( Let's keep our version as close as possible to the upstream
version it was synced with.

That sounds better, yes. Ville (or the gnus/w3 maintainer), can you
do this or do you prefer a patch?
I'll take care of it. I think it is also a good idea to rename md5.el's
not in use to md5.el.upstream's to make sure that the ecrypto one is
always used. And md5 will be removed from gnus' and w3's
package-info.in (provides).
