It could be much worse: I have elevated privileges, so am able to install
whatever I feel that I need to do my job, and not just what others think I
should use. That includes XEmacs, which I have been using for about 20
years.

How do these users without elevated privileges manage to install
XEmacs, then? I guess management is sufficiently clueless that they
don't realize that any Emacsen is a gaping security hole, and have
approved it? It's really not clear to me that corporate security
policy is a problem that we can do much to help solve.
This is more of a packaging issue than a corporate security policy issue, I
think. It would be easier to get XEmacs accepted as a standard application
if you didn't have to install other packages first. Then again, I guess
that most users who would be likely to appreciate XEmacs would have
elevated privileges, anyhow.
