I assume you're talking about my .emacs? Well, in fact I do setq
`completion-ignored-extensions' to approximately that value, and then
hang a function to _add_ them on to `TeX-mode-hook'.
But what I do isn't my point here; the point is that "All The Defaults
Suck" (for somebody; of course I know more about which ones suck for
me than I do about the ones you hate) and this is one place where I
think I have a model of how to handle it with existing functionality.
I wish I knew enough about widgets to implement a prototype quickly,
but unfortunately, I don't :-(
