My suspicion is that the actual color of the shadow is based on the
window's background color, which could be a shade of grey in your XTerm,
and plain black in your XEmacs.
to test your hypotesis, i tried
% echo | xrdb
% xemacs -vanilla -fg white -bg white &
%
but i got the usual dark shadow...
to add a data point(?) i have seen a similar situation (dark shadow)
in another context
due to a somehow misconfigured proxy/firefox, the latter sometimes
fires a lot of dialog windows, all the same size all in the same
place, and the superposition of the individual shadows is similar to
the xemacs shadow
is it possible that what i see as a single xemacs window is, in
effect, the superposition of different windows?
