Eek! There have been *a lot* of crashes reported in this function of
late. Who last modified it?
Look at recent diffs to the file this function appears in and replace
the curent version of the function with previous versions until the
bug disappears, then let us know what version this is.
I was afraid you'd say that :-(.
I'll see if I can find a recipe for it, and regress until it stops breaking.
