I am not partial to them either. But
1. It is too late now. These ARE the advertised paths.
2. They are very convenient in the case of SUMO. It is very clear
which packages are your own and which can be "rm -rf"ed if you are
not running MULE.
3. I have no idea what happens when you load a true MULE package into
a latin-1 XEmacs (the auto-autoloads file could well have mule
stuff in it) but as SUMO contains ALL package it nice to have them
automatically avoided by a latin1 XEmacs.
.../lib/xemacs/packages/. Notably, leim which is mule related is
under
packages/lisp/ as any others. Will xemacs still find them with this SUMO
tarball installed ?
I think it looks in packages last, so it will find the leim package in
SUMO. Moreover it will complain loudly that you have two autoload
files for leim.
