Now if I had a way to say "if multipart/alternative and

that takes precidence over text/html", that'd be great. But I couldn't

any way to do that. If I had the time I'd hack up some of the VM code to get
that functionality, but I was hoping that perhaps I was just missing something
and this could already be done somehow.
FWIW, I have been having the same (or a similar) problem with Gnus and
W3 for the last 2 days, ever since I upgraded to the latest set of
released packages. That may just be coincidence, since I also don't get
much HTML mail. If I get ambitious, I'll try downgrading the packages
and see if the problem goes away.
I'm not getting any warnings about charsets. All I get is the error
message:
Error while rendering html; showing as text/plain
And then it does not show text/plain as advertised, but the raw HTML. I
haven't made any attempts whatsoever at debugging this yet.
