It is not particularly stable at the moment. New bugs are being
introduced as fast as we remove old ones. If you build without Mule
and without the new graphics stuffs, maybe. 21.2 is quite usable if
you are diligent in keeping it patched up. At the moment, the source
tree in CVS is too broken to make 21.2.19.
Is there a tentative release schedule for 21.2?
No. We will release 21.2 when it's ready and not before.
There are a specific set of features that should be in 21.2 before we
release it. In no particular order[1]:
8. Andy Piper's new graphics stuffs
2. Elimination of dumping
12. Synch with FSF 20.4, particularly with regards to Mule stuffs
5. Jan Vroonhof's customization themes and ~/.xemacs
3. UCS4/UTF8 internal encoding changes
7. Michael Sperber's Lisp package overhaul
1. Fix new build problems ie. with X, without menubars, etc.
Some of these are close, I think. I might have left something out.
I'm itching to try it out but only if it is close to suitable
for
production use.
It's not close in the sense you're probably thinking of. InfoDock
isn't quite stable[2] with it, for example.
Footnotes:
[1] With apologies to Kyle for stealing her idea.
[2] It's usable enough that I do all my editing at home with
InfoDock/XEmacs 21.2, but not very close to release quality.
