Empty frame / window created at invocation

        ...
 When I run xemacs (even from the compilation directory), it creates
 a second empty window/frame. 
i have the same problem on beta3.

it appears to be the gutter tab. when i toggle "buffer tabs visible"
off, the second frame dissappears. when the butter tab is made visible
again (or at xemacs startup), i get on stderr:

this is the first time i've compiled with gnome/gtk support.
