Well. I am not sure whose problem this is exactly, but for me the
problem seems to be with something (i.e. either XEmacs or Clisp[1]) not
flushing pipe buffers correctly. The patch below "fixes" the problem
for me. I can run Clisp now and evaluate "(+ 1 2)", define a function
and have it complete the function name in a call.
I have no idea where the concat problems come from, I did not see
them.

P.S. I have the feeling ilisp could do with a few '(defstruct's.

This works with the Allegro common lisp under solaris, but unfortunately no such luck with
clisp :-( I have included the bulk of my posting to
comp.emacs.xemacs and gnu.emacs.help at the end of this message. But, please ignore it (or
not as you see fit) as you seem unable to repeat these problems.

Having installed the inferior lisp package with xemacs 21.1-p3, I cannot get ilisp to work
with CLISP. Using the following procedure:
1) typing esc-x load-library returns the Load Library: prompt
2) typing ilisp at this prompt load the ilisp library
3) typing esc-x return the Dialect: prompt
4) typing clisp-hs loads the CLISP dialect and starts the *clisp-hs* and
*ilisp-hs*
I have define the clisp-hs program to run clisp -I -a
The clisp-hs processes to runs anything I type in that buffer.
If I then open up a text file, and set this as a lisp-mode buffer using
'lisp-mode'; or try to set the lisp package using 'set-package-lisp'
the bottom bar; the *clisp-hs* buffer bomb out with the prompt (ILISP
:run) changing to (ILISP :interrupt).
When 'esc-x set-package-lisp' is typed the prompt Package [nil]: is
returned. Ilisp seems to not think there is a package set.
I have tried this on Solaris 2.6 and Linux 2.2.10.
I have followed the advice in the postings given in the thread 'ILISP
5.8-a04 installation and configuration' on gnu.emacs.help and recompiled
the code. I have also tried to subscribe to the ilisp bugs page but to
no avail.
Also, when running under debug I have got the a message like "concat is
no longer supported with compiled code after version 20.3." I am running
ilisp compiled and there 129 concat's in the lisp. Could this be the
problem.

You are *RIGHT*! Most Elisp packages could use more DEFSTRUCTs. And
ILISP is no exception. As you may noticed I slipped in a "(require 'cl)"
in the package :) Apart from that, a rewriting of a lot of ILISP
is quite an undertaking and I do not have that much time to tackle it.
Here is one thing that I'd like to see. Actually, let's have a
REQUEST FOR IMPLEMENTATION for it. :) Next message.
