Gnus, apparently. From what Dave Love says, Gnus depends on a

which is only present in recent GNU Emacs.
This was my first thought, too, so I went back in time until May 1st,
and still get the same behaviour. But I'm wondering whether it's got
something to do with my local setup, since nobody else is complaining
about this situation.
