Howdy all.
I have a problem reading messages sent by MicroShaft Office like the one I'm
replying to that was sent to the list ("Bugs in artificial intelligence
version (5)") using VM and W3. I get a message of:
Inline HTML display failed: (wrong-type-argument char-or-string-p 8211)
and then I just see the unformatted HTML. I've had this problem for a while
now (through several updates of XEmacs and VM, currently 21.1.14 and VM 6.92)
so it's not a new problem. I only have like 2 people who send email to me
this way, and rather infrequently at that, so while it bugs me it's generally
easier for me to just hit 'D' until the message is displayed unencoded and I
can read the plain text in the first MIME section.
I did try to debug it a couple of times, but never got very far in figuring it
out before deciding it was taking more time than I could devote to figuring it
out at that point (especially with such a trivial workaround).
So, I guess I'm looking for a couple of hints on how to either get it to
always display the text/plain portion instead of the text/html portion, or how
to get around that "bad" character (if I remember correctly it's some
encoding
of a single-quote, at least that's what it was on past messages I saw with
this problem). Is anyone else seeing this problem and figured out how to work
around it? Since this particular email went to the list, I figured that if
anyone else was seeing this problem now would be the time to ask. :)
Thanks,
Chuck
