 There was a thread on  the egcs mailing-list  recently about the
newer
 snapshots crashing  the undump mechanism of  FSF emacs.  I  guess this
 enough may explain the crashes. 
But this time it's plain temacs crashing -
before the dump :-(.
Compiling with -O0 produces a working XEmacs.  I do think that egcs is 
the problem but XEmacs is too big to isolate the bug.
