I am not sure why, but there was a good reason for that at the time.
O.K. I've made the necessary changes for `distribution' to work. I
will start committing changes after I clear out the incoming package
patch queue.
You will need to check that standards-version is >= 1.1 and then use
the value of the distribution field + "-packages" to determine the
hierarchy. I.e. `distribution xemacs', use xemacs-packages/,
`distribution mule', use mule-packages/, `distribution infodock', use
infodock-packages/, `distribution foo' use foo-packages/, etc.
If there are any objections to the following statement, please make
them now.
`standards-version' numbers are floating point numbers of the form X.Y
where X is the major version and Y is a single digit minor
version. Increments of the minor version indicates small changes or
corrections to the format of the package-info.in file. Increments to
the major version indicate probably backwards-incompatible changes. I
expect to go to version 2.0 when Michael completes his work.
