--without-session Compile without realized leader window which will keep the WM_COMMAND property. Required for proper session-management. I think the leader window is needed for proper session management, not the option, right ?

Using the WM_COMMAND property for session management is deprecated according to the X11R6.3 copy of the ICCCM (it is described in Appendix C: Obsolete Session Manager Conventions).
