Yes. However, it's not an issue of stability. The problem was that
under certain conditions athena would get detected when it shouldn't.
There was a patch from Alexei Mahotkin to fix that but it had the side
effect of changing the effective default. I think we should leave it
as is until somebody has time to think carefully about the semantics
of autodetection here.
Having struggled with Xaw vs Xaw3d in the past, I agree with this (but
I'm a very non-gui person, so which widgets we use make very little
difference to me, as long as we don't crash). Also don't forget that
there is still the outstanding Xaw header breakage on Debian which
hasn't been fixed yet as far as I can tell (it's been punted upstream).

Given the quality of vendor motif libraries, I would have no objection
whatsoever to us not supporting them anymore ;-)
