Note that James is the Debian XEmacs package maintainer. He's more
likely to cross platform test than any of us.
Arrgh. Your -z combreloc patch is not going to work if ld is called
explicitly instead of gcc, right?
That is a pity. On the other hand, in fact normally we almost always
use gcc as the linker, and so the current version relies on the fact
that some versions of gcc pass -z on to the linker. Which AFAICS is
documented nowhere. I am tempted to agree with James that working on
more platforms overrides cleanliness issues.
