You need the "none", otherwise ESD will be autodetected.
I note that there are bad interactions between XF86 4.0.x and sound
apps, I don't know if those are ESD-related but since ESD has long
bollixed up the interrupts (this has affected XEmacs in the past, is
incriminated in current XEmacs issues, and for quite some time hosed
IrDA support as well)....
