No policy I know of. The practice of not using an extension seems to
be a GNU Emacs-ism. On my system, Info files distributed with/for GNU
Emacs, exim, and zgv have no content extension. All the others use
.info. All XEmacs info files use the .info extension.
I guess my vote goes to using .info. This should not cause cvs update
conflicts, I suppose.
I admit it actually looks kinda silly, a whole directory named "info"
with all .info files but one dir file. Especially with the .info-##
convention for split files. But I don't see a good reason to make the
effort to change at this point.
