If you are using XEmacs 21.1 (recently retired) or 21.4 (current
stable), please use M-x report-emacs-bug to generate a report. This
includes a lot of information that the (now-deprecated) gnats
interface does not.
If you are not using XEmacs 21.4, you should encourage your admins to
upgrade. Crashes should not happen at all, and disabling a feature is
not really a satisfactory remedy. However, it is very unlikely that a
solution will be provided for older versions of XEmacs, as the bug has
very likely already been fixed in new ones.
One possibility is that you are crashing in the regexp code. This is
a long standing bug which users can address by increasing the stack
space available to xemacs, typically by using a shell command such as
"limit" or "ulimit". 8MB should be plenty.
