New thread: this is a bug, not a bad dream.

Are you using the Carbon branch, or the mainline using the X11 display?
If the latter, do you mean that Apple window-manager commands get
invoked when you're trying to type an XEmacs Meta command? Are you
using the Apple X server (vs X.org from Fink or MacPorts) and the
quartz-wm (aka the default in Apple's installation)?
It should be easy enough (and probably preferred by most users, to
keep consistency with other applications) to reconfigure X11 with
xmodmap rather than to hack something in to XEmacs. (I haven't
bothered because I have more problems with finding parens on the Mac
than with using the ESC key as Meta, but since others find this a pain
I'll take a look.)
OS X port has a configurable Meta key setting for either Alt/Option
or Apple Command key. I understand that this might require the
Cocoa/NeXTStep/GNUStep API and Objective C. However, XEmacs may be
able to grab it from GNU Emacs since it is part of the upcoming
23.1 release as seen elsewhere in this thread.
A Cocoa/*Step port would be nice, but AFAIK we don't have anybody
working on it. So that's not a near-term solution.
