(The X resource mechanism.) Now I never know where to customize anything - Xdefaults? gtkrc? gtkrc-2.0? .gnome/foo/bar ? .kde/tweak ? Once I've worked out where, I have to work out how - and of course nobody writes proper man pages any more. Then I have to use some incredibly complex lash up (which I've never worked out) to get different results on an SGVA display from on a high-res widescreen LCD.
