Ar an naoiú lá de mí Feabhra, scríobh Mike FABIAN:
XEmacs 21.5.18 still doesn't support some Unicode characters
which are
supported by Emacs 21.3.
NB: it’s Emacs 21.4 now! ;-) .
For example:
U+201E DOUBLE LOW-9 QUOTATION MARK
U+263A WHITE SMILING FACE
See the attached test-file which can be displayed correctly by Emacs
21.3 but not by XEmacs 21.5.18.
What needs to be done to add support for such characters?
For the first character, the Unicode mapping table for the latin-iso8859-16
Mule character set needs to be initialised. This is a one-line patch which
does make life easier for people using German and Central European
languages, so I’m going to go ahead and commit it.
U+263A will have to wait for UCS as our internal character encoding. There
are no, to my knowledge, non-UCS, standard character sets that include WHITE
SMILING FACE--as such, something similar to the quick fix for DOUBLE LOW-9
QUOTATION MARK can’t be applied. This is once instance of a wider problem
that will persist until we have the UCS more pervasively integrated into the
editor.
