Thanks for the analysis, and the followups with improvements!
Note that due to a bug in the tracker, the messages in this thread are
probably going to show up as separate issues. Once they do, I will do
something to collect them in a single issue. I would appreciate it if
you would find out and use the appropriate issue number in followups.
I have an idea how to solve this problem, and will be working on it in
March. But in the meantime I beg your forbearance and cooperation. :-)
