Hello Rafael,
please ask for help on xemacs-beta.
That's where I am forwarding this message.
The problem brings back memories about an old problem.
(require 'compile) would fail the first time around.
If you require it again it will work, because defcustom will not run
the find command again.
However, that problem should not show up in 21.4.
See
http://list-archive.xemacs.org/cgi-bin/wilma_hiliter/xemacs-patches/20000...
Does anyone here know about the problem Rafael is seeing?
Best regards,
Adrian

Please send us the output of
M-x describe-installation
Try this:
M-x toggle-debug-on-quit
or (setq debug-on-quit t)
Then invoke the command which hangs XEmacs.
Now, when you think XEmacs is hung, press C-g.
Hopefully this will interrupt.
Send us the contents of the buffer called *Backtrace*.
Best regards,
Adrian
