GNU Emacs 20 did this. They were still getting core bug reversions (the "\201 WTF?" bug) in 20.6. Today, they still see occasional bug reports related to errors in `be-stupid' handling in 21.x. Ben has some support for it in 21.5, but that is at least 6 months from gamma release.
