I've fixed the clipping bug, but I don't see how the infinite wrapping ever
worked. I think what happens is the redisplay code checks for extents at pos
displays the begin glyph, can't display anything else, goes to the next line
and the process repeats because pos hasn't moved. We probably need to fix
the propagation data to register that we have tried to display the begin
glyphs. I think I've avoided fixing this in the past because its an old bug.

Subject: redisplay bug(s) with glyphs (was Re: email embedded images
 displayed improperly after upgrading VM)
 Howdy all.
Ok, after chatting with Kyle Jones about the odd problem I
 reported earlier
this week (or was it last week) about the incorrect display of
 wide graphics
in XEmacs after updating VM, we decided that a redisplay bug or
 two was being
triggered. I have some simple elisp to demonstrate this attached below
(attached below), which displays a short wide pixmap in a couple different
ways (requires XPM support compiled in, obviously). Tested it in
 a "clean"
 21.4.6 environment like so:
   env XUSERFILESEARCHPATH="" xemacs -vanilla -l xemacs-glyph-wrap-bug.el
The elisp will pop up 3 frames, 2 which display the embedded
 pixmap correctly
and one which will not. The first frame shows how VM was
 originally (v7.00)
inserting the image slices, which displays ok (I believe that the
 \n is not
part of the extent that contains the glyph). The 2nd frame shows
 how VM is
inserting the slice now (v7.03) where the extent holding the
 glyph also holds
a space and a newline (I believe). The 3rd frame which displays
 correctly has
the space outside of the extent, and it displays correctly. Now, if you
resize the "bad" example frame so it's wider than the pixmap, the
 pixmap is
displayed correctly. Resize it smaller again, displayed bad again.
Also, I noticed something else interesting (i.e. likely another
 redisplay bug,
not directly related I'm assuming). If you take and opaquely
 move one of the
good windows over the bad window (I'm using fvwm version 2.4.3)
 and off again
from left to right, the image does not redraw itself well (correctly or
incorrectly). Going from right to left will redraw itself (correctly, but
still incorrectly repeated) however. The "good" windows exhibit this same
 behavior.
And interestingly, if you drag the obscuring window from right to
 left (which
as I said causes the image to be redrawn "correctly") but do so
 slowly, you'll
see that as the underlying window is exposed that the pixmap is actually
slowly redrawn (corresponding to the movement) from left to right
 instead of
from right to left (in the areas already exposed) so it isn't
 "correct" until
the obscuring window is moved completely off!
Using this test case, does anyone else observe this same
 behavior, either with
21.4.6 or the latest 21.5 stuff? I haven't tried the latter yet...
I'll try it on my Linux box at home tonight too (running 21.4.6
 as well) if no
one else sees it to see if it's perhaps something specific to my
 Solaris box
 here at work.
 Thanks,
 Chuck
