is present in the environemnt (with any value, even empty) the option
is set.

I forget my csh, but in sh it's just
# value doesn't matter, "Jawohl" or (perversely) "NoThanks" works
too
USE_EMACS_AS_DEFAULT_DEFAULT_APPLICATION_CLASS=YesPlease
export USE_EMACS_AS_DEFAULT_DEFAULT_APPLICATION_CLASS
I think in csh it would be
setenv USE_EMACS_AS_DEFAULT_DEFAULT_APPLICATION_CLASS YesPlease
