OK, according to Installation, you've got configure right, and that is
definitely a crash. However ... I see you've got ESD support. Do you
use ESD? It is known to do some things with interrupts that don't
agree with XEmacs (or something, I forget the details). There was one
crash with merely xemacs -vanilla, M-: all-hail-xemacs RET -- which
IIRC went away when ESD was turned off. I seem to recall an
association with progress bar crashes, too, but that may just be
wishful thinking.
I'll try and get the thread but you might just try configuring
--with-sound=native, and see if the crashes go away.

Well, that won't happen in the 21.4 series; GTK is "experimental", so
potentially destabilizing changes outside of #ifdef HAVE_GTK won't be
allowed. I'll take what changes I can that don't "leak" out of the
conditional, but ... good luck with 21.5!
