"iconv: illegal input sequence" in VM

Hi - long-term XEmacs/VM user here. I've been seeing this problem for a while but am reporting it for the first time now (sorry if this is a FAQ, I did a quick web search but did not find an answer to this one). Every so often, email message text is cut off with a message like this: iconv: illegal input sequence at position 161 Looking in the raw INBOX file the offending character is a Unicode "bullet", composed of bytes 226, 128, 162.
